The Bannockburn Heritage Centre, the scene of the great victory by King Robert the Bruce in June 1314 where he defeated the forces of King Edward II to win freedom for the Scots from the English. Step back in time and relive the struggles of Scotland's hero.
Stirling, the Gateway
to the Highlands is home of Stirling Castle. It overlooks the River Forth
where William Wallace defeated the army of Edward I. Stand on the Castle and gaze down at the scene of the battle. Visit the Church of the Holy Rude where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned Queen while still a small baby. Later, her son, also an infant, was crowned King of Scotland in this church.
Passing through the Trossachs (meaning bristly country), and the Queen Elizabeth Forrest Park, romanticised by Sir Walter Scott's Lady of the Lake and its association with Rob Roy McGregor. Drive past Loch Achray and Loch Katrine and with time permitting, sail on the Walter Scott. We then proceed to Duke's Pass and marvel at the beautiful scenery as we meander along this old twisting road to Aberfoyle, also associated with Rob Roy McGregor. A visit to the Glengoyne Whisky Distillery can be arranged time permitting. Loch Lomond is within reach during this tour returning to Edinburgh via Glasgow Or we can drive past Scotland's only lake, the Lake of Menteith and Inchmahone Priory where Mary Queen of Scots spent part of her early childhood.
