Edinburgh
Castle dates back to Bronze and Iron Age occupation. it was an ideal spot for
the early
settlers to this area of Scotland to defend.
See the Crown Jewels of Scotland,
said to be the second oldest crown in the world. Visit St Margaret's Chapel, built
around 1120.
Wander about the castle and hear
stories of wars with the Auld Enemy and visit the many buildings within the
castle walls.
St Gile's Cathedral was originally
built in 854, replaced around 1120, then destroyed by the Auld Enemy in
1385.
Rebuilding commenced almost
immediately after.
Step back in time when you wander
through the doors of this Old Kirk of Scotland and lay your hands upon the
central pillars that date back to the 12th Century.

Visit The Thistle Chapel dedicated
to Scotland's ancient Order of the Thistle.
The Palace of Holyrood was
built early 15th century for the marriage of James IV of Scotland and Mary Tudor
of England. Take a walk through the palace in the footsteps of Mary Queen of
Scots and other Scottish and British Monarchs.
Holyrood Abbey was founded in 1128 by King David I. It is now a ruin, but
still worth a walk through the ancient walls to feel the atmosphere of time
past.
You
can also enjoy a leisurely stroll through the Royal Gardens

Glenkinchie
Distillery
Glenkinchie, a short and pleasant
drive into the rolling farmland of East Lothian. Here you can see the
distillers at work employing the excellent Scottish barley and pure clear
water from the nearby Lammermuir Hills in the making of a fine malt in every
respect. An exhibition of malt whisky is housed in the listed red brick
buildings and the dram in the distillery bar usually satisfies any further
thirst for knowledge.
Rosslyn Chapel

History
The area around Rosslyn has played an important role in the history of
Scotland, and the castle was a key holding during the wars of independence. A
battle was fought here in 1303, when small force of Scottish Knights defeated a
larger English army three times in 24 hours.
