The Palace of Holyrood was built late 15c James IV of Scotland and Mary Tudor of
England,Mary Queen of Scots and many other monarchs including our present Queen have
used the palace. Take a walk through the palace and the 12c Abbey in the footsteps
of our Scottish and British Monarchs.
White Horse
Close was probably the site of the Palace stables and may have been named
after Mary, Queen of Scots, favourite white mount. From the 17th Century it was the
site of an inn which was the terminus for the coach service to Scotland Yard London.
John Knox House dating from
around 1490. Several additions have been made to this
house which is a most outstanding example of as Edinburgh house of the period. The
house was subdivided in the 16th century
